In English: Can I Vote in Finland's Municipal Elections 2017?

Hi everybody!

This time in English: My name is Hannu-Pekka Poikonen. I'm a candidate from Finland's Green party (Vihreät) in the municipal elections in Lohja. I want to support and develop schools & education, culture and local services where the people live in Lohja.

In these elections we choose the members of the city council. The election day is Sunday, 9 April 2017. The city council makes decisions on many important issues such as schools & kindergartens, city finances, roads & traffic, town planning, etc.

Many non-Finnish speakers may not be sure about whether or not you can vote in these elections. Good news for you! Yle can help you with that question - see this chart:

In short, in this election you can probably vote if you live in Finland permanently and came over 2 years ago - even shorter if you come from the EU. Citizenship is NOT required! For more info, have a look at Yle News's article.

The state also has collected some information in different languages. Find your preferred language here ("englanti" for English):
